Job Description
The Materials Manager oversees the planning, procurement, storage, and distribution of materials to ensure timely and cost-effective supply chain operations, supporting manufacturing and operational goals while leading a team and collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- •Oversee planning, procurement, storage, control, and distribution of materials and products.
- •Develop and manage material planning strategies to ensure timely availability of raw materials, components, and finished goods.
- •Monitor and control inventory levels to optimize inventory turns and reduce excess and obsolete inventory.
- •Supervise and lead the materials team, including material planners, inventory analysts, warehouse personnel, and logistics staff.
- •Coordinate material needs with Procurement, Production, Engineering, Quality, and Sales teams for ongoing production and engineering changes.
- •Maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs) and ensure ERP MRP systems are updated with correct material data.
- •Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory accuracy, space utilization, lead time reduction, and supply chain visibility.
- •Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and logistics partners.
- •Develop and track KPIs related to inventory accuracy, material availability, inventory turns, and supplier delivery performance.
- •Coordinate material movement between warehouses, production lines, and 3PL providers to support just-in-time manufacturing and lean initiatives.
- •Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for inventory discrepancies, shortages, or late deliveries.
- •Participate in Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) and capacity planning processes.
Requirements
- •Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
- •5 to 8 years of experience in materials management or supply chain roles, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- •Demonstrated success managing inventory, materials planning, and supply processes.
- •Experience with ERP MRP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, etc.
- •Develop and manage material planning strategies to ensure timely availability of raw materials, components, and finished goods for production and customer demand.
- •Monitor and control inventory levels to achieve target turns, reduce excess and obsolete E&O inventory, and support cash flow objectives.
- •Supervise and lead the materials team including material planners, inventory analysts, warehouse personnel, and logistics staff.
- •Work closely with Procurement, Production, Engineering, Quality, and Sales teams to coordinate material needs for ongoing production, NPI (New Product Introduction), and engineering changes.
- •Develop and maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs) and ensure ERP MRP systems are kept up to date with correct material data.
- •Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory accuracy, space utilization, lead time reduction, and supply chain visibility.
- •Establish and maintain effective communication and relationships with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and logistics partners.
- •Develop and track performance metrics (KPIs) related to inventory accuracy, material availability, inventory turns, and supplier delivery performance.
- •Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and applicable regulations such as ISO, FDA, OSHA if applicable.
