Job Description
A Security Operations Engineer responsible for managing and enhancing security systems, responding to incidents, conducting product security reviews, and collaborating with development teams to ensure the security of Planet's satellite data platform in a hybrid work environment.
Responsibilities
- •Own, run, monitor, and enhance SIEM, network, server, and application security systems
- •Respond to security incidents and participate in Planet's bug bounty program
- •Automate workflows and develop solutions to improve team efficiency
- •Conduct product security reviews and support security-related projects
- •Join the 24/7 on-call team to respond to alerts and investigations
- •Collaborate with application development teams during system design and implementation to address security vulnerabilities
Requirements
- •Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline with a focus in Information Security
- •4 years of professional experience in a security-focused role
- •A computer science, software engineering, or equivalent technical background, and security concepts including cryptography
- •Experience developing security requirements at a cross-system level
- •Experience leading or participating in projects
- •Experience with SOC operations
- •Familiarity with network and application penetration testing
- •Ability to own, run, maintain, monitor, and enhance SIEM, network, server, and applications monitoring systems
- •Experience responding to security incidents and participating in Planet’s bug bounty program
- •Ability to automate workflows and develop solutions to increase team efficiency
- •Experience conducting product security reviews
- •Ability to drive processes and systems to support the success of Planet’s products
- •Availability to join our 24/7 on-call team to respond to alerts and investigations
- •Working knowledge of cryptographic concepts
- •Ability to research specific security topics as needed for assigned tasks
- •Experience working with different stakeholders and conducting occasional code reviews
- •Familiarity with GCP and/or AWS cloud platforms
- •Solid interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- •Solid development experience in Python, Go, Ruby, or an equivalent language, with the ability to learn other programming languages as needed
- •Willingness to work in a hybrid position in Berlin, requiring presence in the office 3 days per week
- •Access to export-controlled information without requiring additional export licensing, as per export control requirements
