Job Description

The Senior Operations Manager will lead and oversee autonomous vehicle testing and technical operations at Nuro's facility, ensuring safety, performance, and team development while collaborating across multiple departments to support the company's autonomous driving technology and commercialization efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee autonomous vehicle testing, safety, performance, and efficiency at the facility.
  • Manage and develop the testing team through coaching, mentorship, and performance management.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with hardware, software, autonomy, product, legal, and leadership teams.
  • Drive strategic planning, set and track OKRs and KPIs for the closed course team.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to supervisors and operational teams.
  • Develop scalable systems and processes to support testing and operational objectives.
  • Identify and develop top talent, fostering career growth and team resilience.
  • Ensure a safety-centric, inclusive, and performance-driven culture within the team.
  • Coordinate with engineering and partner teams on vehicle integration, testing, and demonstrations.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and communicate effectively across multiple teams and external partners.

Requirements

  • Over 5 years of management experience, specializing in continuous improvement, data-driven decision-making, mentoring, managing managers of managers, and leading a diverse team.
  • Experience in overseeing autonomous vehicle operations, including managing autonomous vehicles, managers, and test operators, ensuring safety, performance, and efficiency.
  • Ability to set clear expectations, manage performance, and cultivate team through coaching and mentorship.
  • Proven ability to serve as the primary point of escalation, advocate for the team, and collaborate effectively across Hardware, Software, Autonomy, Product, Legal, and senior leadership teams.
  • Experience in driving strategy, setting and tracking OKRs and KPIs, and aligning team goals with company objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of safety, inclusion, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong judgment skills with the ability to independently solve complex cross-functional problems and influence key stakeholders with minimal oversight.
  • Experience in building scalable systems and processes, identifying and developing top talent, and championing career advancement and team resilience.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and direction to first-line supervisors, upholding operational excellence and promoting a safety-centric, inclusive, performance-driven, and transparent culture.
  • Experience collaborating with teams on vehicle integration, testing, software development, external demonstrations, and partner visits.
  • Proven success in strategic planning for operational teams, including development, achievement, and tracking of OKRs and KPIs.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple projects, processes, and teams simultaneously, with a proactive approach to resolving challenges.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and coaching skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous environments and thriving within innovative teams.
  • Solution-oriented mindset focused on delivering results through practical approaches.
  • Invests in team growth and development, working cross-functionally to establish goals, milestones, and success metrics.
  • Engages deeply with software and hardware engineering teams to solve technical challenges and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Prioritizes safety as a fundamental aspect of all operations.
