Job Description
The role involves leading interconnection strategies and operations for renewable energy projects, managing technical teams, and collaborating with stakeholders to facilitate utility-scale and distributed generation interconnections, with a focus on advancing clean energy initiatives.
Responsibilities
- •Lead and manage a team of interconnection engineers and coordinators throughout the utility interconnection process for various renewable energy projects.
- •Oversee all aspects of interconnection applications, including pre-screening, impact studies, facility studies, cluster studies, ISO transmission studies, and final project close-out.
- •Develop and implement standard operating procedures, workflows, design standards, and internal processes related to interconnection activities.
- •Provide strategic, technical, and market input to development, engineering, and construction teams regarding project grid integration and interconnection.
- •Engage with utilities and manage utility performance to meet tariff deadlines, including initiating dispute proceedings when necessary.
- •Manage resource planning, hiring, and external support to enable organizational growth in interconnection activities.
- •Train and oversee junior engineers in electrical design and analysis of utility reports and studies.
- •Collaborate with policy teams to develop and implement regulatory strategies and participate in industry working groups to promote grid-enhancing technologies.
- •Represent the organization in legislative and regulatory venues, providing testimony and comments to influence interconnection policies.
- •Develop predictive tools and data dashboards to forecast grid constraints, interconnection costs, and project timelines for internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- •Eight (8) years of renewable energy interconnection engineering experience.
- •Eight (8) years of cross-functional project or program leadership experience.
- •Four (4) years of policy adjacency experience.
- •Ability to independently set priorities, allocate resources, and make complex technical and commercial decisions, elevating to senior management when necessary.
- •Experience in designing and managing a portfolio of utility interconnection applications from initial submission through project closeout across multiple states and markets.
- •Experience managing all aspects of the interconnection process for community solar, storage, and utility-scale DERs to the distribution system, including pre-screen applications, impact studies, facility studies, cluster studies, ISO transmission studies, Interconnection Service Agreements, and final project close-out and PTO ATI.
- •Experience developing department SOPs, workflows, design standards, and internal processes.
- •Experience managing relationships with internal customers and external resources.
- •Experience initiating utility dispute proceedings and engaging with utility leadership to manage utility performance to tariff deadlines.
- •Experience managing resource planning, hiring, and third-party engineering support, including load-flow, flicker, and power system studies.
- •Experience training and managing junior engineers in performing electrical designs and reviewing utility pre-screen reports, System Impact Studies, and ISAs.
- •Experience supporting the development and implementation of tactical and strategic action plans related to interconnection project execution.
- •Experience integrating with Grid Integration and coordinating with Policy as a technical expert in regulatory policy to implement organizational grid integration strategy in state and wholesale markets.
- •Experience working with Grid Integration and business development to shape organizational watch markets through proactive engagement in regulatory proceedings.
- •Experience collaborating with Industry Groups and serving as Nexamp’s lead in technical and regulatory working groups to promote Grid Enhancing Technology (GET) initiatives.
- •Experience serving as an interconnection subject matter expert in policy venues, including drafting comments and providing testimony in legislative and regulatory settings.
- •Experience working with Grid Integration to develop predictive interconnection tools and data dashboards for internal stakeholders.
- •Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information, ideas, and perspectives with internal and external stakeholders.
- •Proven initiative to improve current work, processes, products, and services across the organization.
- •Strong analytical skills to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify root causes of problems, and present creative solutions.
- •Ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty.
