Job Description
This position involves leading interdisciplinary research and development in optical materials, spectroscopy, and atomistic simulation, with a focus on materials discovery, characterization, and device development using advanced laboratory and computational techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead cutting-edge R&D initiatives in optical materials, optics, spectroscopy, and atomistic simulation.
- Conduct laboratory research on light-matter interactions using advanced spectroscopy techniques.
- Develop and lead materials discovery platforms and research programs.
- Design, build, and control experiments involving ultrafast lasers and spectroscopy.
- Perform atomistic material simulations using frameworks like DFT and manage HPC scheduling.
- Develop new materials through routine wet laboratory processing.
- Generate research ideas, write proposals, and lead project teams for funded programs.
Requirements
- PhD in Chemistry, Physics or Engineering with a highly interdisciplinary emphasis on optical material device development, material modeling, and characterization.
- Expert level ability in laboratory research particularly in light matter interaction across a broad range of materials and photonic devices with various state-of-the-art spectroscopy techniques.
- Excellent theoretical foundation for atomistic modeling and knowledge of current and emerging ML AI techniques which are essential for materials development.
- Ability to lead the development of materials discovery platforms.
- Strong knowledge of fabrication techniques related to thin-films, wet chemistry, and solid-state samples.
- Must be capable of performing extended analysis at computer workstations.
- Must be able to work safely in an optical, electrical testing, and wet chemistry laboratory.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Must be willing to apply for and maintain a security clearance.
