Job Description
The Field Service Technician is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on utility-scale solar PV systems, troubleshooting electrical issues, and ensuring safety and operational standards are met in a fast-paced, field-based environment.
Responsibilities
- •Perform on-site routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of solar PV systems
- •Conduct DC and AC testing, including polarity, open circuit voltage, grounding, communication, insulation resistance, and I-V curve tracing
- •Maintain tools, meters, vehicle, and spare parts inventory
- •Create service reports and document major issues and downtime
- •Identify and eliminate safety hazards
- •Respond to emergency repair cases as needed
- •Ensure work complies with electrical codes and safety standards
- •Operate and monitor SCADA, DAS, and UPS systems
- •Use testing equipment such as thermographic cameras, megohmmeters, and ground fault detectors
Requirements
- •Possess 3-4 years of experience in PV maintenance, including PV DC operations, AC medium voltage systems, network communications, and monitoring.
- •Hold and maintain a valid Class A Journeyman Electrician License and ensure all work complies with local, state, and national electrical codes and safety standards.
- •Be NABCEP Certified Installation Professional.
- •Have experience with operation of SCADA, DAS, and UPS systems.
- •Be skilled in the use of testing equipment and tools such as Thermographic Electrical Inspection, IV Curve Tracing, Meggers, and Ground Fault Detection.
- •Demonstrate diagnostic capabilities to troubleshoot and correct problems found in PV systems.
- •Have knowledge of the National Electrical Code and standard design construction practices.
- •Be able to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams.
- •Proficiency with MS Office suite.
- •Possess a valid Driver's License.
- •Complete OSHA 10 HR Training.
- •Comply with NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the workplace.
- •Have the ability to travel, work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends.
- •Work in the field and in the office, with excellent attendance and punctuality.
- •Understand and adhere to safety and quality procedures and practices.
- •Wear PPE including hard hat, arc flash protection, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
- •Be able to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-10 hours a day.
- •Be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
