Job Description
A Thermal Spray Set-Up Technician supports the preparation and surface treatment of turbine engine components through masking, grit blasting, and surface finishing processes, primarily in a modern, climate-controlled facility, with training provided to develop necessary skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize components to support efficient scheduling
- Review work instructions, sketches, and routers to identify tasks
- Perform masking and grit blasting operations on turbine engine components
- Set up tooling such as fixtures and gauges for surface preparation
- Apply masking materials to protect surfaces during processing
- Grit blast specified areas to achieve required surface finish
- Trim masking using sharp tools to precise dimensions
- Remove masking and clean components with solvents or power wash
- Inspect work for quality and completion
- Follow written and verbal work instructions accurately
- Communicate with team members regarding work instructions
Requirements
- Able to use measuring devices such as scales, micrometers, dial indicators, go no-go gauges, etc.
- Experience in reading shop drawings and work instructions and the documentation of work performed
- Previous experience in the operation of overhead cranes
- General experience using files and other hand tools to remove sharp edges from metal surfaces
- High school or technical school graduate or equivalent
- Familiar with or able to learn basic shop math
- Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- Must be able to use hand tools and have good hand-eye coordination
- Ability to work independently and perform the job with minimum supervision
- Work in varying positions from time to time, including standing and sitting for portions of the shift
- Able to move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods
- Able to move less heavy parts weighing up to 50 pounds with or without hoists, slings, or carts
- Pre-employment testing requirements including fitness for duty testing, respirator fit test, and a vision exam
- Use of safety and personal protective equipment such as ear plugs, safety glasses, uniforms, TyVek jumpsuits, and respirators as required
