Job Description
The Chief Engineer - Plant Design and Engineering is responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in the planning, design, and implementation of systems necessary for the operation of a fusion power plant, ensuring integrated system functionality and supporting project delivery across various teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise and leadership in planning, engineering, design, implementation, and support of systems for a fusion power plant.
- Examine interactions between various systems to ensure proper integrated functioning and interface performance.
- Support engineering and delivery teams by reviewing designs, defining functional requirements, and participating in technical tradeoff studies.
- Determine applicable codes and standards and define system architectures.
- Review and comment on designs, providing clear technical feedback.
- Work with cross-disciplinary teams including engineering, R&D, construction managers, contractors, and vendors to design, deliver, and commission new facilities and systems.
Requirements
- Strong technical knowledge and skills of process piping, process equipment, process design, and associated support systems of a thermal power plant of significant size.
- Demonstrated ability to review and comment on designs and provide clear technical feedback.
- Excellent working knowledge of the project delivery process including planning, design, manufacturing, construction, commissioning, and qualification.
- Ability to provide technical support to engineering and delivery teams, assist in defining functional requirements, participate in the review of designs, lead technical tradeoff studies, determine applicable codes and standards, and define system architectures.
- Experience working with in-house Engineering teams, R D, Project Construction Managers, partner firms, contractors, and vendors to design, deliver, and start up new facilities and systems.
- The candidate must have at least some experience or knowledge related to systems that enable the functioning of a fusion power plant (experience in fusion is not required as it will be taught on the job).
