Job Description
The Regional Practice Director oversees business practices, project delivery, and financial performance for a specific region within CannonDesign, focusing on design excellence, operational efficiency, resource management, and fostering a Living-Centered Design culture across multiple offices.
Responsibilities
- •Oversee regional practice management, including project delivery, resource allocation, and business operations.
- •Develop and implement regional business plans aligned with the firm's strategic goals and growth targets.
- •Ensure project management and process best practices are followed across all offices in the region.
- •Manage the financial performance of the region, including profitability, revenue forecasting, and financial strategies.
- •Implement project delivery methods, including design technology, quality, sustainability, and engineering integration.
- •Lead regional staffing, recruitment, and resource development to support strategic growth and diversity.
- •Communicate goals, initiatives, and policies effectively to staff and foster collaboration within the region.
Requirements
- •Bachelor's Degree is required for this role. Advanced degrees are preferred.
- •Generally, at least 20 years of related experience or equivalent is required.
- •Experience working in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry is required.
- •Proven leadership ability is required.
- •Strong organizational and time management skills are required.
- •Effective change management skills are required.
- •Ownership and accountability are required.
- •Ability to advocate Living-Centered Design is required.
- •Ability to promote an ethical culture is required.

- •Ability to oversee and ensure project management and process leadership best practices, including work planning, contracting, risk management, fee development, and resource management, are understood and consistently implemented across all offices in the region.
- •Ability to collaborate with the Executive Director of the region, Business Office, Legal Team, and Quality to address commercial and risk issues is required.
- •Ability to monitor project performance, conduct audits, and direct changes to ensure satisfactory results is required.
- •Ability to lead the regional revenue forecasting and recognition process and take appropriate actions to ensure satisfactory results is required.
- •Ability to implement project delivery methods, including Design Technology, Quality, Sustainability processes, and engineering and interior design integration, is required.
- •Ability to foster a design-centric culture using Living Centered Design to achieve outstanding results for clients is required.
- •Ability to develop and execute regional staffing and recruitment strategies, including resource needs assessment, strategic investments, and oversight of regional resources, is required.
- •Ability to facilitate the firm's Single-Firm, Multi-Office (SFMO) model to support client requirements and regional growth is required.
- •Ability to plan resources firmwide to align with profitability, staff development, quality goals, client expectations, and strategic office growth is required.
- •Ability to foster the development of a diverse team of professionals supporting a design culture and regional objectives is required.
- •Ability to implement a mentoring program for future firm leaders is required.
- •Ability to communicate goals, outcomes, directions, initiatives, and policies clearly and motivate staff to meet business and practice objectives is required.
- •Ability to develop and implement internal communication processes to keep staff informed and encourage collaboration is required.
- •Candidates must be able to work in any of the CannonDesign offices located in the East Region, including Arlington, VA, Baltimore, MD, Boston, MA, and New York City, NY.
- •Candidates must be willing to complete mandatory compliance training and adhere to internal policies and the firm's Code of Conduct as a condition of employment.
