Job Description
This position involves designing and managing HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, while coordinating with project teams and overseeing construction phases, primarily under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
Key Responsibilities
- Design ductwork, piping, and select HVAC equipment independently on assigned projects
- Assist with plumbing and fire protection system designs as needed
- Supervise or provide project management within the mechanical discipline, including monitoring project progress and budget
- Calculate heating and cooling loads, and design ductwork and piping layouts using energy modeling software
- Create Revit BIM models of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems from schematic to construction phases
- Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units
- Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents
- Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress
- Participate in construction meetings and respond to RFIs and change orders
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
- Minimum of 6 years of related experience required.
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States preferred.
- Experience in designing HVAC systems, including performing and directing design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection independently on assigned projects.
- Experience in calculating heating and cooling loads, and designing ductwork and piping using energy modeling software.
- Proficiency in preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings for HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
- Experience in performing Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
- Ability to review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Experience in specifying mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
- Experience in reviewing and editing specifications relating to existing or new projects.
- Ability to independently research and respond to emergent issues as they arise.
- Experience interfacing effectively with clients and project team members, including attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budgets.
- Experience responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
- Experience conducting job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-throughs of sites.
- Ability to coordinate work activities on specific projects with multiple persons of various capability levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
