Job Description
This position involves designing HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, preparing construction drawings using Revit BIM, and collaborating with project teams on various building projects. The role requires technical expertise in engineering design, site visits, and project management within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, for building projects.
- Assist with plumbing and fire protection system designs as needed.
- Calculate heating and cooling loads and develop layouts using energy modeling software.
- Create Revit BIM models of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems from schematic to construction phases.
- Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
- Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
- Collaborate with clients and project team members through meetings and communication channels.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of related experience required.
- Experience in designing HVAC systems, including performing calculations of heating and cooling loads, layout and design of ductwork and piping, using energy modeling software.
- Ability to independently perform designs of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for building design, including smaller less technical projects under supervision for complex projects.
- Experience preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
- Experience performing Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
- Ability to review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Experience specifying mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
- Experience in editing specifications relating to existing or new projects.
- Ability to interface effectively with clients and project team members by attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings in conjunction with project budget.
- Experience performing job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-throughs of sites.
- Experience in researching as needed and responding to emergent issues.
- Ability to assist in gathering information to respond to RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
- Physical ability to perform site visits that require walking and physical movement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
