Job Description
The Executive Director, Great Lakes Region, is responsible for leading regional growth, developing strategic plans, building leadership teams, and representing the firm externally, all while ensuring design excellence and operational success across multiple offices in the US and Canada.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a regional growth plan with a minimum of 10% year-over-year growth.
- Build and lead a high-performing, diverse, and inclusive senior leadership team in the region.
- Define and implement a strategic regional business plan to drive growth and impact.
- Identify and pursue new market opportunities, clients, practices, and business lines.
- Oversee business practices, risk mitigation, and quality execution of projects in collaboration with regional leaders.
- Champion design excellence, sustainable strategies, and quality standards across the region.
- Represent the firm externally at community events, conferences, and speaking engagements.
- Communicate internally to foster collaboration, share initiatives, and align team efforts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree is required for this role. Advanced degrees are preferred.
- Generally, at least 20 years of related experience or equivalent is required.
- Experience working in the Architecture, Engineering, and Interior Design (A E I) industry is required.
- Proven track record of ability to lead and inspire others is required.
- Demonstrate ownership and accountability.

- Ability to develop and execute a strategic regional growth plan.
- Ability to partner and engage with firm, office, and market leadership to develop and implement a business plan focused on growth and impact.
- Ability to identify growth market opportunities, key target clients, and yearly Net Signed Fee targets to grow the region's business volume by a minimum of 10% annually.
- Ability to evaluate and address senior talent needs in the region.
- Ability to identify new potential markets, practices, and business lines for investment and development.
- Ability to support research and development and encourage development of new ideas, services, and products.
- Ability to champion best practices of project management, risk management, process improvement, project leadership, and financial stewardship in partnership with the Regional Practice Director.
- Ability to review contracting exceptions and grant exceptions using firm and legal guidance.
- Ability to represent the firm externally at community-based events, conferences, and broader events to support the overall brand and direction of the firm.
- Ability to develop and execute internal communication processes to keep staff informed and foster collaboration.
