Job Description
This position involves supporting electrical engineering projects through preparing construction drawings, designing systems such as lighting and power distribution, conducting site visits, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare basic construction drawings and specifications of electrical systems for building projects.
- Design electrical systems including lighting, power distribution, communications, telecommunication, and fire alarm systems.
- Analyze engineering documents and layout electrical components and systems.
- Research and address design issues related to electrical systems.
- Apply electrical codes to building power distribution and circuiting design.
- Recommend process and standard improvements to enhance quality and coordination.
- Review and markup shop drawings and submittals.
- Gather information for RFIs and review change orders during construction document preparation.
- Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
- Minimum of 2 years of related work experience required.
- Must have strong communication, teamwork, organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects.
- Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Navisworks or similar applications preferred.
- Apply knowledge of electrical code for the application of building power distribution design and circuiting.
- Prepare basic construction drawings and specifications of electrical engineering systems for building construction under supervision.
- Design lighting, power distribution, communications and or telecommunication systems for healthcare, education higher education and commercial clients, including fire alarm systems, under supervision.
- Analyze engineering documents and layout systems in regard to components and parts.
- Research and respond to design issues.
- Assist in the review and markup of shop drawings and submittals.
- Assist in gathering information to respond to RFIs and review of change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
- Conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, which may require a physical walk-through of the site.
- Must have a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred.
- EIT or FE certification preferred.
- Must be able to apply electrical code standards and regulations relevant to building power distribution and circuiting.
