Job Description

A Structural Staff Designer is responsible for leading field evaluations and measurements of industrial structures, developing detailed BIM 3D and 2D AutoCAD drawings for repairs or replacements, and overseeing drafting quality while collaborating with engineers and other designers in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead field evaluations and measurements of structures to develop repair or replacement drawings
  • Design and draft complex structural drawings of steel, concrete, wood, and masonry
  • Develop design portions of evaluation reports
  • Perform quality control of drafting produced by others
  • Drive the implementation of new applications for existing and emerging technologies
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to less experienced drafters

Requirements

  • Possess a 2-year technical degree.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in relevant field.
  • Proficiency with 2D AutoCAD and BIM 3D Modelling software.
  • Experience with CADWorx, S3D, E3D, or similar 3D modeling tools.
  • Exposure to Bluebeam software.
  • Experience with Advanced Steel is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Revit experience is required.
  • Basic mentoring skills and technical oversight of small team members.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead design and drafting teams in field evaluations.
  • Ability to become proficient in the application of structural design codes for concrete, steel, and AWS standards.
  • Ability to improve proficiency in Laser Scan Point cloud designing.
  • Must meet all client-specific site requirements prior to deployment on field assignments.
  • Physical mobility on the ground and at heights.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and occasionally work off platforms or scaffolding using appropriate fall protection.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions including heat, rain, cold, and wind while wearing PPE.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Willingness to adhere to a client’s random drug testing program prior to entering their site.
  • Willingness to meet a client’s facial hair safety policy prior to entering their site.
