Job Description
The position involves leading procurement strategies for solar PV storage systems and components, managing large-scale sourcing, supplier relationships, and contract negotiations to maximize value and ensure quality in renewable energy projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive global sourcing of storage systems and components for solar projects
- Lead complex RFP processes and manage multiple supply, integration, construction, and O&M contracts
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop contracting strategies and evaluate commercial factors early in project development
- Develop and implement supplier development and relationship management processes
- Analyze and manage vendor risk while ensuring quality standards are met
- Create and monitor performance metrics for suppliers and procurement organization
- Work with engineering and procurement teams to develop proactive supplier qualification and sourcing strategies
Requirements
- Demonstrate sound industry knowledge related to procurement in the renewable energy sector, specifically solar PV storage systems and components.
- Possess superior communication skills and detail-oriented organizational skills.
- Report to the Sr. Director, Strategic Sourcing and Procurement.
- Drive implementation of the Avantus procurement strategy and standards across solar PV storage systems and components.
- Manage an annual equipment spend of well over 1 billion USD.
- Drive best-in-class global sourcing of storage systems and components, including EPC selection, photovoltaic modules, racking or tracking systems, inverters, balance-of-system AC and DC components, transformers, switchgear, etc.
- Build strategic sourcing capabilities for energy storage systems into solar projects and stand-alone storage.
- Create and follow best practices in processes for large-scale procurement.
- Lead complex RFPs and transactions that feature multiple supply, integration, construction, and O&M contracts.
- Work cross-organizationally to ensure that alternate contracting strategies are considered at the earliest stages of technical specification and that commercial factors are fully evaluated in early-stage negotiations and project development decisions.
- Understand and creatively problem solve for fit-for-purpose sourcing strategies.
- Develop and implement strong supplier development and supplier relationship management processes.
- Build key relationships and actively manage those relationships with key vendors.
- Analyze and manage risk in contracting with vendors, and be familiar with evolving quality factors within the storage and PV industries.
- Identify key focus areas for cross-functional teams to leverage economies of scale.
- Work closely with Engineering, Finance, Legal, and other functions to develop an integrated approach to contracting and negotiate contracts with appropriate terms and conditions.
- Create and implement performance metrics for external suppliers and the procurement organization.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Procurement teams to develop a proactive supplier development program to qualify competitive sources of supply in a timely and effective manner.
- Maintain supplier quality standards to ensure that the company's quality requirements are met with every delivery.
- Possess a BS in STEM, MBA, or demonstrated experience in driving procurement and transactions.
- Have 5-10 years of increasingly progressive procurement and/or transaction experience in the renewables sector.
- Have at least 1 year of EPC selection experience.
- Experience with a solar power developer or an asset-heavy organization with large CAPEX expenditure is preferred.
- Be highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Ability to multi-task and manage tight timelines.
- Effective in working with multiple stakeholders and within cross-functional teams.
