Job Description
The role involves safely operating autonomous semi-trucks during testing and pilot operations, providing real-time feedback to engineers, and supporting the development of self-driving technology while working night shifts and maintaining a focus on safety and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely pilot and co-pilot autonomous semi-trucks and vehicles during testing and operations
- Monitor the Aurora Driver's performance and autonomy systems in real-time
- Log feedback on platform and autonomy performance for engineering analysis
- Escalate operational issues with suggested solutions
- Maintain knowledge of self-driving technology, software, and operational updates
- Work on cross-functional projects to demonstrate positive impact
- Represent Aurora positively when interacting with the public
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience driving trucks commercially
- Valid U.S. Driver's License
- Interstate Class-A Commercial Driver's License
- Clean driving record with 0 violation points
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must pass pre-employment, post-incident, and randomized drug testing in accordance with FMCSA requirements
- Must pass DOT physical and meet all DOT qualifications
- Ability to work night shifts, second and/or third shift, rotating shifts as needed, and regular overtime including weekends
- Ability to work 10-12 hour shifts with 80% of shift time spent in the vehicle
- Ability to travel as needed
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to prioritize and make strategic decisions proactively
- Must be able to remain alert and attentive while monitoring the Aurora Driver during extended stretches of autonomy
- Ability to log real-time feedback regarding autonomy and platform performance during testing
- Ability to escalate operational blockers with suggested solutions
- Ability to demonstrate positive impact at Aurora by working on cross-functional projects as time permits
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of how Aurora's self-driving technology works, including understanding daily software and operational changes
