Job Description
A Senior Staff Frontend Software Engineer responsible for leading the development of Aurora's Remote Assist vehicle management application, designing scalable and reliable frontend solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and contributing to the operational efficiency of autonomous vehicle fleets.
Responsibilities
- •Build and maintain Aurora's Remote Assist frontend application and services for vehicle management and remote support.
- •Design and develop complex systems from scratch, collaborating with cross-functional teams including hardware, infrastructure, security, and product teams.
- •Lead and mentor junior team members, project manage frontend development efforts, and ensure high-quality, scalable, and reliable frontend solutions.
- •Implement new features and capabilities for existing products, and develop new functionalities to support autonomous vehicle fleet operations.
- •Establish and optimize technology infrastructure to support scalable, high-availability, and reliable frontend applications.
- •Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure real-time vehicle data communication and safe autonomous fleet operation.
- •Contribute to team culture through mentorship, feedback, collaboration, and engineering best practices.
Requirements
- •Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- •10 or more years of industry experience in software engineering.
- •Experience as a technical lead for frontend projects spanning multiple teams.
- •Strong frontend engineering skills using modern technologies including JavaScript, TypeScript, React JS, gRPC, and three.js.
- •Deep experience architecting React applications focused on visualizing streaming data, with a focus on performance and reliability.
- •Experience with real-time systems understanding of latency minimization, data consistency, and handling variable frame rates, multiple camera feeds, packet loss, and network degradation.
- •Experience with video streaming applications.
- •Experience with performance analysis and observability tools such as React Profiler and Sentry.
- •Experience with fleet management solutions for robots, vehicles, or aerial drones.
- •Experience with external customer-facing software including production rollout.
- •Ability to design complex systems from the ground up, working closely with software, hardware, infrastructure engineering teams, and stakeholders.
- •Ability to establish technology and infrastructure to move products to scale with high availability and reliability.
- •Excellent communication skills, including writing effective technical specifications, providing feedback, translating technical concepts into lay terms, and incorporating feedback.
- •Strong collaboration skills with leadership, peers, and team members.
- •Proactive, self-starter mentality with the ability to thrive in a growing environment and consider no obstacle too big or small.
- •Motivation to own the product lifecycle end-to-end, including engaging with product and design teams and internal customers to meet their needs and ensuring product development stays on course through release and post-release support.
- •Physical and mental ability to perform the duties of the role, including working with complex systems and collaborating across teams.
