Job Description
The Director of Survey is responsible for leading survey projects, managing client relationships, overseeing project execution, mentoring team members, and contributing to business development efforts within a consulting, engineering, and construction services firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute annual survey project plans and strategies
- Collaborate with clients and management to define project objectives and prepare proposals
- Negotiate and secure contractual agreements with clients before project initiation
- Manage project invoicing, accounts receivable, and ensure financial compliance
- Foster internal communication and coordinate across teams and sectors
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and address concerns promptly
- Support business development through marketing, presentations, and client follow-ups
- Maintain accurate project documentation and utilize web-based collaboration tools
- Coach and mentor team members to support their professional growth
- Ensure project inputs and processes adhere to quality standards
- Stay updated on industry trends through professional development activities
- Achieve performance targets related to project chargeability, revenue, and invoicing
- Apply survey and engineering concepts independently as needed
- Organize project teams, assign responsibilities, and coordinate with sub-consultants
- Analyze project data and trends to meet project objectives
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and expenditures to meet financial goals
- Report project outcomes and insights to management for continuous improvement
- Work with stakeholders to define project timeframes, budgets, and staffing requirements
- Contribute to a team-oriented environment to achieve collective results
Requirements
- Proven experience in survey project management and leadership roles.
- Ability to independently apply fundamental survey and engineering concepts as needed.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with strong listening abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Strong business acumen and ability to contribute to business development efforts.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as surveying, engineering, or similar; an advanced degree is a plus.
- Professional licensure certification in surveying, engineering, or related field.
