Job Description
The Associate Engineer will provide technical oversight and support for utility-scale solar and energy storage projects, including reviewing designs, managing project documentation, and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure project success.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight for PV and BESS projects, including reviewing designs and commissioning requirements.
- Develop scope of work documents and respond to technical RFIs throughout project lifecycle.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, and electrical teams to ensure comprehensive design packages.
- Manage EPC during the design phase, focusing on array orientation, tilt, spacing, and performance calculations.
- Perform due diligence on project documentation, identifying and communicating potential issues.
- Review electrical, civil, and structural designs and supporting calculations in accordance with applicable codes.
- Prepare engineering budget estimates for project costs and timelines.
- Collaborate with engineering, estimating, and construction teams to develop best practices and standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, required in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil disciplines.
- 4 years of hands-on experience as an engineer working with solar, BESS, or another related industry.
- Electrical testing and field commissioning experience.
- Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards, such as NESC, ASCE, ASME, ASTM, NEC, ANSI, IEEE.
- Familiarity with NERC and CIP standards.
- Able and willing to travel to construction sites.
- Knowledge of engineering and renewable energy systems including solar PV systems with SCADA and monitoring systems, and BESS.
- Knowledge of site production design calculations, plan preparation, site collector system calculations, and report writing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of AutoCAD design, ETAP or similar software, CYMCAP or similar software, PVsyst or similar software, WinIGS or similar software.
- Knowledgeable in physical substation design methods and their application.
- Advanced computer skills in MS Office, MS Windows, and project controls.
