Job Description
The Development Manager at Akaysha Energy will oversee the entire development process of utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects in Australia, including site identification, permitting, and project management, while collaborating with various stakeholders to drive renewable energy initiatives.
Responsibilities
- •Lead the development of utility-scale BESS projects from inception to construction readiness.
- •Identify, evaluate, and secure suitable sites for BESS projects.
- •Acquire exclusivity and options on land or project opportunities.
- •Lead permitting and statutory approvals, managing consultants for necessary studies.
- •Engage with key stakeholders, including permitting authorities and community leaders.
- •Coordinate with Grid Connection Manager for generation connection approvals.
- •Optimize project designs in collaboration with engineering and delivery teams.
- •Develop and manage project budgets, risk registers, and schedules.
- •Contribute to the development and improvement of project management tools and procedures.
- •Stay informed about regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Requirements
- •Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, business, or a related field
- •Minimum 5-7 years of experience in renewable energy project development, with a focus on BESS
- •Strong understanding of BESS technology, energy markets, and grid operations
- •Familiarity with connection processes, permitting requirements, and energy storage system design considerations
- •Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse stakeholders
- •Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing and delivering presentations
- •Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- •Ability to think strategically and solve complex problems in a dynamic, evolving market
- •Adaptability to changing regulatory environments and emerging technologies
- •Familiarity with relevant regulations, policies, and guidelines governing renewable energy development
- •Ability to travel to project sites and attend evening or weekend meetings/events as needed
- •Must be an Australian citizen, hold permanent residency status or have existing AU working rights
